It’s that old vicious circle again! One that I hear time and time again. “I can’t afford to invest in myself”. But then because you’ve not invested you can’t grow. And so it goes on. Ad infinitum. So I’ve written a blog to explain why you can’t afford not to invest in yourself!
Read on to discover the reasons I know that it’s time for you to start taking investing in you and your childcare business seriously.
Excuses I hear everyday about why you can’t invest in yourself
When I’m coaching childcare business owners something they very quickly grow out of is making excuses. They used to say things like “I can’t afford to take time off”. Or “I can’t afford to get a coach”. Or even “I can’t afford to hire staff”. And instead they now take time to consider things carefully before automatically making assumptions about money and affordability. They look at all the options available to them. They don’t write off things that could actually help them grow their businesses just because they have in the past.
I’m not suggesting that you start taking silly risks or putting your home on the line. No way! I’m just asking you to REALLY think about things before you turn down huge opportunities to up-level your childcare business.
When I was coaching with my most recent cohort of The Childcare Flip, I saw them completely change their mindset about “affordable” and other money issues. The progress they made was incredible. And I want that for you too!
Can’t invest in yourself or won’t…What is going on really?
More often than not when someone says “I can’t afford it” they’re not thinking about their actual finances and bank statements. Sometimes it’s about trust. Others it’s about priorities. And occasionally it’s about being more resourceful and thinking outside the box.
So when you’re faced with an opportunity to invest in yourself as a childcare business owner, I’d encourage you to journal on it. Don’t immediately say no. Instead take some time to look at what’s really happening here. What are the benefits of investing in this? Where might the path take you? Who will you get the chance to work with? How much money could this make you in the future?
Can you afford not to invest in yourself?

15 years ago I successfully opened my own childcare business despite all the challenges I came up against. I was a single mother to four gorgeous babies, with limited resources. But nowadays I have multiple centers, with teams of All Stars running them with me!
I’ve gone from a 9-5 job to being a multi six-figure childcare business owner. And I’ve continuously grown my childcare business day-in, day-out. I love it so much that I’ve been teaching other women how to succeed too, using their passion and skills for childcare.

You’ve got to take action
Want to know how I’ve managed to come so far? It’s quite simple really: I took action. Every single day. If I didn’t take action to become who I am today, I know exactly where I would be. Broke, unfulfilled, & plain ole tired!
Every day, I took another step to reach my goal. Sometimes I’d hit a bump in the road and have to start over, but it never stopped me trying to push forward. And I want to show you how you can do this too.
Action taking is tough
Wait a minute. Before you bite my head off. I KNOW taking action can be hard. We’ve all got things that might get in our way. A difficult family history, circumstances that don’t make it easy. But if I’d let my challenges and negativity get me down, I’d be stuck in that 9-5, I’d never have spent time raising my kids and I’d not be where I am now.
So we’ve got to make a choice. You’ve got to stand up and decide to take action. No more excuses. The time is now.

When it comes to getting your marketing message right it’s really important that you pay attention to what you’re putting out into the world and whether or not it’s being seen.
Nailing your messaging is the key to growing your childcare business and making it the success it deserves to be.
Are you hearing crickets?
Often we find ourselves putting tonnes of effort into our marketing and think we’re really visible. We believe we’re getting our information out into the world and that our ideal clients are seeing. But when we hear crickets and realize we’ve had zero inquiry calls, we begin to wonder what’s going on.
What’s happened here? Is there a disconnect between what you think you’re saying and the message being received by your audience? Or is there an issue with the platforms you’re using?
Take a deeper look into this before making your next move!
More often than not, we’ve missed a trick
And that trick is relatively simple: we have not got the messaging for our childcare business right.
Maybe it’s the information you’re relaying, or maybe it’s not hitting home. But whichever it is, it means we haven’t dialled in on our message well enough.
So how can we clear our messaging up and get people signing up to waitlists or booking in for tours?
What’s your mission?
Imagine you’re at a networking event and you’re in a conversation with someone you’ve not met before. They ask you, “What do you do for a living?” You reply, “I’m a childcare business owner.” Simple enough, right? WRONG!
Telling them what you “do” is absolutely fine. However, you’ve left them with only a vague idea of what you do and it’s unlikely that they’ll ask you anything deeper.
And that’s the same when it comes to your marketing. Don’t be vague and wishy washy. Be bold and make moves! Make it clear that you have a purpose, that you’re on a mission to make a difference. Show them the fire in your belly!
Getting your marketing message just right
So how about if, instead, you answer them with a precise mission statement that explains what you do, how you do it differently and what actually sets you apart from all the other childcare businesses.
That’s the power of getting your marketing messaging correct.
It’s about actually getting your information out there in a way that people quickly and easily understand who you are, what you do, and what sets you apart from the competition.
When you can execute your messaging well, you’ll notice that more people are heading your way and are seeking you out specifically. And that’s all because they’re aware that you’re suited to their needs. They know exactly what they’re looking for from their day care provider.
